
PERU: CUSCO, SACRED VALLEY & MACHU PICCHU (08 Days / 07 Nights)

DAY 01: LIMA TO CUSCO
Upon arrival in Lima, you will catch your domestic flight to Cusco. Arrival and transfer to your accommodation for time to relax and get acclimated to the altitude. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 02: LIMA / CUSCO (Cusco -Altitude: 10,500 ft)
Free morning. In the afternoon, we will visit the city of Cusco and its various colonial buildings, the Plaza de Armas and the Temple of the Sun Koricancha, the Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor. Known in Inca times as Huacaypata, or the Warriors Square, this was the scene for many key events in the history of Cusco. Koricancha was the main Inca temple, the Temple of Inti (the supreme god -the sun) and a masterpiece of Inca architecture. The temple is built in blocks of carved granite and smelted gold in the junctures of the blocks. Inside the temple, there was a garden in which the trees, birds, animals were represented in gold. The temple was surrounded with a gold cornice and all the walls were covered in gold plates. Finally, we visit the impressive ruins of Sacsayhuaman, the red fortress of Puka Pukara, the Inca Baths at Tambomachay and the Temple of Qenqo. Sacsayhuaman is an imposing example of Incan military architecture. The fortress was built using large slabs of granite to safeguard the city from possible attacks by the Antis, an invading force from the East. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 03: CUSCO / RAFTING / PISAC (Altitude: 2,972 m / 9,750 ft)
This morning our private guide will take us to our river rafting excursion at Quiqijana. We will then go on an excursion to the famous ruins of Pisac. We will climb for two hours and use the original trail to the Pisac Ruins. Once in the ruins, our guide will share some information about this city. Later on this evening, we will organize our camp at the Hotel Royal Inka. Overnight in Pisac. Hiking: Light to intermediate hiking: 5-6 hours, including downhill. Rafting: 2 hrs

DAY 04: CHINCHERO / MARAS & THE SALT MINES / MORAY (ALTITUDE: 3,300 m / 10,824 ft)
Today begins with an early morning visit to the ruins and church before we begin our hike towards the town of Maras, passing by small Quechua villages and farming areas. We will enjoy a nice view of the Lake Huaypo and the mountains of the Cordillera Urubamba. We will arrive in the town of Maras where we take a short break to enjoy the views of the valley. We will then take a winding trail down to the salt mines of Maras, an incredible site that has been exploited since Inca times. The people of Maras have maintained the rights to lofting the mines, and it has become a family business for most. It is an amazing site! We will have the opportunity to see them working the saltineras within the small valley. After lunch we will continue towards the archaeological site of Moray. It is said that the Incas used this site as an agricultural experiment laboratory, creating circle terraces, to improve the quality of their corn and potatoes. Afterwards, we will camp close to this site (at 3,500 m / 11,482 ft.) Overnight in Moray. Hiking: Light / intermediate -Chinchero-Maras –3.5 hrs and Maras-Moray –2 hrs. This will leave plenty of time for visiting each of the ruins.

DAY 05: MORAY / OLLANTAYTAMBO (ALTITUDE: 2,700 m–2,900 m / 8,860 ft–9,515 ft)
Early in the morning, we will explore the site again to enjoy its tranquility and watch the sunrise. Here you can understand why they worshipped the Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Inti (Sun). After a nice breakfast, we will continue our hike down into the small valley of Pomatales at which point we enter the Sacred Valley. We will hike along the Vilcanota River to Ollantaytambo to have lunch at one of the local restaurants. In the afternoon, we will visit the archaeological site. Overnight in Ollantaytambo. Hiking: Light/intermediate -approximately 5 hours

DAY 06: OLLANTAYTAMBO / AGUAS CALIENTES (ALTITUDE: CHACHABAMBA –2,170 m / 7,233 ft ; MACHU PICCHU –2,400 m/ 8,000 ft)
This morning, we will have an early transfer to the San Pedro Station, where we will take a train to Km. 104, at which point we will cross a footbridge to begin our hike at the Inca site of Chachabamba. After lunch we will continue walking towards Wiñaywayna, one of the best preserved structures along the Inka Trail which also has a beautiful setting. We will enjoy a guided visit of the archaeological ruins before continuing our trip to Aguas Calientes. Return to the hotel for overnight in Aguas Calientes. Hiking: Light / intermediate approximately 5 hours.

DAY 07: MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO (ALTITUDE: MACHU PICCHU–3,360 m / 10,500 ft)
Today we will visit the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. We will have the opportunity to appreciate the wonderful view of the citadel from a spot named Inti Punku. We will then enter Machu Picchu and have a guided tour for approximately three hours. Enjoy some free time and explore this amazing site on your own. After lunch we will meet as a group and descend to the town of Aguas Calientes. Return to the city of Cusco by train, and transfer to our hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 08: CUSCO / LIMA
Transfer to the airport in Cusco for our flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, we will be assisted at the airport to board our international flight (B)
